New Year, Some Changes

New Year, Some Changes

Happy New Year everybody! At the beginning of the year, everyone has the declaration of becoming a new and improved person. "New Year, New Me" can be heard declared all over social media. There's something about a new year that makes a person want to forget everything in the past and embrace a new and improved future. Here's the thing though, that's not completely necessary. I get wanting to set goals for yourself, wanting to leave the past behind you. However, I think you don't need to change yourself and I think it's good to remember some things of the past. Let me explain a little before I tell you my resolutions.

Hold on to Yourself: I think people don't give themselves that much credit when they compare who they are to who they want to be. It may seem like there is so much about us that needs to change, but honestly, there's a lot of wonderful things about us as we are right now. The person you are today has gone through a lot, and look at where you are! You've accomplished things you thought you couldn't. You survived incidents that looked like you'd never get out of. As far as the resolutions that have to do with health and body images, it's important to remember Genesis 1:27, "So God created mankind in his own image," You are a beautiful creation of God! Made in his image no doubt! Never forget that! Even with these things in mind, there's nothing wrong with setting goals to improve yourself. Set a goal to lose weight. Make a habit to be more organized. Set yourself up to be a continual improvement on who you are now, not a completely different you.

Learn from the Past: Sometimes we have a tendency to leave the past in the past, especially when the year seemed like a disaster. However, we can stand to learn something from our past, good, bad or indifferent. Instead of forgetting the year, hold on to the good memories and learn from the mistakes. The best way we can improve ourselves is by seeing where we've come from and how we got where we are now. You're as strong as you are because of what you've overcome so far. You're as smart as you are because of all that you've learned to get you where you are. What has happened to you in the past will help to improve your future, and made you the person you are at the present.

There's nothing wrong with looking forward and hoping for better things. We just need to keep in mind that we are made in the loving image of God and that the things we've faced in the past can help to have a brighter and happier new year. So with that let me share my resolutions with you, maybe help me stay accountable. I want to start cooking so I can eat healthier. I want to read my bible everyday more often to do better in my walk and for this blog. I also want to learn three languages and travel, because why not have a few fun goals too! I hope you all have a Happy New Year and you set goals that will keep you the same person, but help you grow!
